ABOUT EDWIN WEST (From a whisper to a scream...)

Edwin West focuses on an eclectic fusion of jazz, pop, R & B and funk. He has many musical influences ranging from Gladys Knight, Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan to Natalie Cole, George Benson and Al Jarreau to name a few.

Edwin presents fresh interpretations of both classic and contemporary material, and performs at many different venues and functions throughout the region, including nightclubs, weddings, private parties, fundraisers, fairs/festivals and corporate events.

Edwin West is a native of Hartford, CT. He began singing while in school. His first music teacher, Lorraine Williams Bailey, discovered him almost by accident when she asked Edwin to join in a glee club rehearsal his sister was attending. Ms. Bailey was impressed enough to encourage Edwin to sing publicly, which he has been doing ever since. Edwin has an extraordinary vocal range and power which has enabled him to interpret all types of music with great expression.

Edwin's first group, a funk band called Root Down, achieved popular success throughout New England and often performed with other well-known bands such as Tongue n' Groove and Gus Factor. Edwin has appeared with area favorite Lance James and Hartford Advocate reader's poll winner Alvin Carter on a regular basis. Now, as a leader of his own group, Edwin is a favorite at many area venues.
