BELOW YOU'LL FIND THE WINES HIGHLIGHTED ON OUR SEASONAL WINE LIST
Our policy is to get great-tasting, food-friendly wines into the customer's
glass; not languishing in our wine cellar. For that reason, you'll notice that
our pricing on wines is well below the usual and customary mark-up for
restaurants. It is our hope that by passing our low market cost on to the
customer, the customer will explore wines of types and varietals that price
would normally prohibit them from trying. Just because a wine is value-priced
doesn't mean it's not world-class with the requisite balance of austerity and
drinkability to please all wine drinkers whether novice or oenophile.

Values!
I bring you this hand-picked list of a handful of the market’s best values, with my best
wishes for your enjoyment!

JAPANESE SAKE
Gekkeikan Draft (Small Carafe – Hot) 3.50
Gekkeikan Draft (Large Carafe – Hot) 7.00
Ozeki Extra-Dry (Individual – Cold) 7.00
Superbly dry and slightly perfumed, a refreshing alternative to sake
served hot. Drink on the rocks or neat.
Ozeki Karatamba “Country” (Indiv. – Cold) 15
The epitome of the sake-maker’s craft, this elegant sake starts smooth
and dry with flower-petals on the elegant finish. Distinctive
hand-painted pottery bottle you can take home.
Red Wines
1. Merlot NV “HMS Rex Goliath” Central Coast, California 20, glass 6.50
2. Cabernet Sauvignon NV “HMS Rex Goliath” Central Coast, California 20,
glass 6.50
SPECIAL: We have a limited amount of the superb
2004 Cabernet Sauvignon from Steltzner Vineyards, Napa, California.
Keep in mind that '04 is the best year for Napa wines in fifteen years.
Bottle $75
'05 Steltzner Claret (Meritage-grade blend in French style) $38
202. Pinot Noir ’06 “Private Selection” Robert Mondavi Vineyards,
Central Coast, CA 25
Mondavi’s critically-acclaimed “Private Selection” is chewy and austere,
with rich oak integration and a burst of black raspberry fruit with
hearty nutmeg on the long, memorable finish.
203. Valpolicella ’05 “Mara” Vino di Ripasso Cesari Vineyards, Italy 30
We call this delightfully dry Italian with many layers of fruit (ranging
from new plums to ripe figs) a “Baby Amarone” because it rests in
Amarone casks before being bottled. Enjoy a truly superb, critically
acclaimed example of the Italian winemakers’ craft.
204. Meritage ’05 Hahn Vineyards, CA 38
A true Wine Board Certified Meritage in the French style from acclaimed
Hahn vineyards, well-known for fabulous wines at fair prices. This wine
is fleshy and delightfully fruity with just a hint of leathery oak on
the warm red-raspberry finish.
205. Zinfandel ’05 “Old Vine Zin” Gnarly Head Vineyards, Lodi, CA 22
This Zinfandel is a “best buy.” It rivals Zins at twice the price. The
hand-picked fruit comes from 80-year-old vines in Lodi, CA and is
carefully crafted to exploit the fabulous flavor. The result is an
archetypal Zin with plenty of austere fruit and a thrilling, spicy
finish which includes licorice and pepper.
206. Cabernet Sauvignon ’05 Gnarly Head Vineyards, Lodi, CA 22
Gnarly Head does it again; some of the oldest vines in California bring
a complex, delightfully “chewy” Cab with a long finish integrating plum
fruit that leaves you longing for more. A best buy.
85. Pinot Noir ’01 Mountain View Vintners, Mendocino, CA 40
This characteristic Pinot is limited in availability and is being
offered at a very special price because we “bought low” and cellared it
for a while. Deep, rich fruit yields to a supple finish with spice and
earth notes.
89. Shiraz ’03 “Wolfkloof” Robertson Winery, South Africa 40
If you thought the Australian Syrahs are good, you haven’t tasted the
superb way the South Africans have with this popular wine. The Wolfkloof
vines came from the Rhone valley, the South African soil produces a
concentrated fruit which is very rich and heady with mulberry, cinnamon,
clove and leather. We could sell this wine for $60 but why be greedy?
Blush Wines
12. White Zinfandel ’06 Sutter Home Winery, CA 20, glass 6.50
04. Plum Wine NV “Akadama” Napa, CA (Glass) 7
By the glass only, this delightfully refreshing is not cloying like its
Japanese equivalents. Napa plums and wine make it a home run!
White Wines
288. Chardonnay '06 Butterfield Station Vineyards,
CA 20, glass 6.50
15. Sauvignon Blanc ’05 Anakena Vineyards, Chile 20, glass 6.50
16. Pinot Grigio “HMS Rex Goliath” CA 20, glass 6.50
108. Gruner Veltliner ’05 Hoepler Vineyards, Austria 28
We invite you to be enchanted by this serious yet subtle wine which
starts with lovely mango and white-peach fruit which lingers on the
palate for a moment and then the refreshing finish lingers with a whiff
of minerals.
109. Chardonnay ’03 “Buchli Station” Bouchaine Vineyards, Napa, CA 28
This is a ripe, delicious, buttery Napa Chard that we acquired at
market. We could be greedy but we’re passing the value on to you!
207. Chardonnay ’06 “Sweet Bitch” Aconcagua Valley, Chile 25
Delightful off-dry winemaking from Chile. A great way to get “White Zin”
drinkers acquainted with an austere varietal.
